What the 80 Hour Core Competency Course Includes
Christian Institute's 80 Hour Core Competency Course is approved by CCAPP and CADTP. It provides the essential training required under AB 2473 (see section titled background for more info) for new SUD Counselor registrants. This course builds the foundational skills needed to begin your careers as a Registered Alcohol and Drug Trainee I (RADT-1) or a Substance Use Disorder Registered Counselor (SUDRC-I). Students must complete this 80 hour core competency course in the first 6 months of registration with CCAPP or CADTP.

A little more background about AB 2473
This course is approved by CADTP and CCAPP, ensuring it meets all state guidelines in AB 2473. According to AB 2473, newly registered counselors (on or after July 1, 2025) are required to complete 80 hours of the core competency course within 6 months of registering. These hours apply toward the total educational requirements a registered counselor must complete to become certified. The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive understanding of core competency topics as specified by CADTP, CCAPP and the California Health and Safety Code section 11833(b).
