CCAPP Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor
SUD Counselor Certification
About this Program:
Christian Institute (CI) has been offering drug and alcohol counseling certification courses since 2005. We have hundreds of satisfied students, and most importantly, many of them have gone on to become Certified. Christian Institute is approved by CCAPP (California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals). This means that you don’t have to worry if your courses will count towards your certification. You can visit CCAPP's website by clicking here for more information. With CCAPP certification, you have reciprocity with other states through the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) This means that your certification is transferable to jurisdictions governed by IC&RC. You can also view other states' certification requirements. If you reside in another state, read the state's certification requirement. The states listed in the menu are the ones where Christian Institute's courses will meet the criteria.
SUD Counselor Certification to become a CADC-I or CADC-II
Acquiring professional knowledge and skills to work with those who have substance abuse issues is essential to be more effective. As stated earlier, Christian Institute, since 2005, has been offering substance abuse training to persons who want to help others with substance abuse problems. Many of Christian Institute’s students have become certified drug and alcohol counselors. They are now working in non-profits, governmental entities and are even in private practice. Other students take courses for enrichment purposes so that they can learn about substance abuse in order to help loved ones or understand the nature of addiction. Still others have taken the courses to be more effective in their church ministry. Christian Institute has designed its courses so that persons can qualify to become certified as a drug and alcohol counselor. In understanding the nature of treating others with substance abuse issues, Christian Institute's curriculum helps students not only to pass the exam to become certified but also to enhance their fundamental understanding of providing treatment. Through Christian Institute's curriculum, students' understanding of working with clients is broadened; therefore, they develop new perspectives on how to perform treatment.

Email from a thrilled student:
Hi Christian Institute! I attended your program August 2021 - January 2022 and since then my CADC-II application was finally approved through CCAPP and therefore I sat for my test this past weekend, 5/13/23, and PASSED the IC&RC Exam! I wanted to thank you so much for your kind words and help that you provided me, and to all of us applicants, really. I am thrilled that I passed on the first attempt. Take good care of yourself and thanks again, Maura S. Other Students' Talk about Christian Institute
I passed my Alcohol and Drug Counselor Exam with flying colors. Thanks to Christian Institute! Christian Institute's on-line classes gave me the flexibility and tools I needed to pass each class and feel confident while applying for my internship. Christian Institute was there for me every step of the way to answer questions and offer support.
I am so grateful for all their help. Sincerely, Polly H. Law & Ethics Course I believe the Christian Institute should know that this course has deeply shaped the way I serve others, ethically, professionally, and spiritually. I’ve learned how to uphold core principles like informed consent, confidentiality, and nonjudgmental care. These are not just professional standards—they reflect biblical values too, like honesty, humility, and compassion. I’ve come to understand that being a counselor in the addiction field means walking beside people in their brokenness, offering hope without condemnation. This course has helped me see that my work is a form of ministry. It aligns with what Scripture says in Galatians 6:2 (NIV): “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Every day I show up for clients, I’m practicing this calling. Addiction counseling isn’t just a career—it’s an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ to those who are suffering. The Christian Institute should know that this course equips people like me not only with clinical tools but with the spiritual mindset to help people heal with grace and integrity. - Yvette |
Dear Lawrence:
Just a quick note to express my thanks for the help you gave me through Christian Institute as I studied for my drug and alcohol counselor credential. You were very encouraging along the way and kept me motivated to complete the tasks. Last week I took and passed the CADC II exam. Thank you. Norman B. What Students Say About Overview of Addiction:
I loved this course very insightful. I absolutely agree with the spiritual aspect of learning about addictions. You certainly can't have one without the other. This is an excellent course. I do not think that Christian Institute should change a thing. Thank you so much for challenging me to be better. -Orin This course provides a solid understanding of substance abuse and recovery, combining practical strategies with ethical and cultural awareness. It aligns well with Christian values like compassion, support, and holistic care, making it valuable for anyone in ministry or counseling roles looking to better support individuals and families struggling with addiction. -Milagros I reached out to Dr. Lawrence Sam a few times regarding questions about the coursework. Dr. Sam was very prompt with his replies (and grading the coursework) and never failed to provide a thoughtful professional response. - John This is a great course, and it has helped me develop a stronger understanding of the spiritual, psychological, and predisposition aspects of addiction. -George Samples of Students' Assignments
