CERTIFICATIONS IN THE ALCOHOL AND DRUG COUNSELING FIELD (NORTH CAROLINA)

Starting the Certification Process in North Carolina

Christian Institute (CI) is approved by NCASPPB (North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board).  The NCASPPB is approved by the IC&RC to certify candidates as certified counselors to work in the field of drug and alcohol counseling. 

Because Christian Institute is approved with NCASPPB, this means that you don’t have to worry if the courses you take will count towards your certification. Christian Institute offers the required courses needed for the Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.

Christian Institute is also an NAADAC (National Association of Alcoholism Counselors and Drug Abuse Counselors) Approved Education Provider.

​Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor - (CADC)

Statement of Purpose
The Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) credential enhances and unifies the qualifications of professionals working in the addiction counseling field. The following CADC credentialing guidelines have been developed by the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Certification Board (NCASPPB). On the 1st of January in 2020, CSAC changed its name to Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.

Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist - (LCAS) 

Statement of Purpose

The Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) is a credential for professionals in the field of addiction counseling and treatment.  This designation is awarded to those who have met the specific education, experience and examination requirements established by NCASPPB.  LCAS professionals are qualified to diagnose, treat and support individuals dealing with substance use and addiction-related issues.  NCASPPB aims to establish professional standards in addiction counseling, recognize individuals who meet these standards and enhance their credibility and integrity within the healthcare community and the public. For the LCAS credential, a minimum of a master's degree in a behavioral health related field with a clinical component or application is required.

Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) & Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS)
